Our cardiology department is your one-stop for all cardiology procedures. Our reports are very reliable as we work with great teams of cardiologist both in and outside Nigeria.

At BDC we offer the following range of services: ECG, Echocardiogram (Adult & pediatric), TMT/Stress test (Treadmill test), 24hrs Holter monitoring, Spirometry/Lung function test driven by our group of qualified, well-trained health professionals.

ECG Test

An electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) is a test that records the electrical activity of your heart, in a bit to identifying problems associated with the heart. An EKG/ECG shows the heart’s electrical activity as line tracings on paper. The spikes and dips in the tracings are called waves. The heart is a muscular pump made up of four chambers. The two upper chambers are called atria. The two lower chambers are called ventricles. A natural electrical system causes the heart muscle to contract. This pumps blood through the heart to the lungs and the rest of the body. An ECG testing takes about 5 to 10 minutes, but for stress test the timing is more.

TMT/Stress Test

Stress tests are tests performed by a trained technician and reported by a consultant cardiologist to determine the amount of stress that your heart can manage before developing either an abnormal rhythm or evidence of ischemia (not enough blood flow to the heart muscle). The most commonly performed stress test is the exercise stress test. It involves the guest walking on a treadmill with the activity of the heart is being recorded

An echocardiogram, is a sonogram of the heart. Echocardiography uses standard two-dimensional, three-dimensional and Doppler ultrasound to create images of the heart. Echocardiography is routinely used in the diagnosis, management and follow-up of patients with suspected or known heart diseases. It provides wealth of helpful information including the size and shape of the heart (internal chamber size quantification), pumping capacity, and the location and extent of any tissue damage. It also gives other estimates of heart function such as a calculation of the cardiac output, ejection fraction. And diastolic function (how well the heart relaxes).

Holter monitoring

A Holter monitor is a battery-operated portable device that measures and tape records your heart’s activity (ECG) continuously for 24 to 48 hours or longer depending on the type of monitoring used. The Holter monitor records your ECG as you go about your daily activities. The device is the size of a small camera. It has wires with silver dollar-sized electrodes that attach to your skin.

SPIROMETRY TEST/PFT [Pulmonary Function Test]

This is a common pulmonary function tests (PFTs), measuring lung function, specifically the amount (volume) and/or speed (flow) of air that can be inhaled and exhaled. Spirometry is an important tool used for generating pneumotachographs which are helpful in assessing conditions such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis and COPD.
